Kanchanaburi province is located West of Bangkok, next to the Myanmar border. And the city of Kanchanaburi is famous for the river crossing it, the Kwai river and the infamous bridge over the river Kwai whose construction resulted in thousands of deaths during the Japanese occupation.
From Kanchanaburi, you take the Highway 3199 and after 65 km, you’ll reach the Erawan National Park, the 12th National park in Thailand, covering 550 km2 of mountains and valleys. And the main attraction of this Park is the Erawan Waterfalls.
You can follow a trekking path inside the park that will lead you to 7 different levels.
This is not extremely difficult to go through the 7 levels if you are in reasonable shape but it is still going to take you a few hours to go to the top and come back. Especially with a small kid.
Actually, quite a lot of people do not go further than the first two levels, where you can still find small shops selling food and drinks. And have some picnic near the water. Food and drinks are not allowed for the other levels in order to keep the park as clean as possible.

The place is pretty crowded during the weekend and public holidays, so if you want to fully appreciate the beauty of the place, you’d better go during the week.
If during the weekend, quite a few people will take advantage of the many ponds you can find at the bottom of the waterfalls to cool down.
Somme are even trying to stop the water from falling

It is anyway a very nice place to go to and I recommend you to visit it the next time you go to Kanchanaburi.
