You can find thousands of pictures on the internet showing the bridge on the river Kwai. An American movie helped a bit making this bridge quite popular. But I have to say, the first time I went there, is only one year ago. After having been living in Thailand for 13 years. Why would I want to see quite an ordinary bridge?
But I went anyway and I just fell in love with the place, not for the bridge itself, but for the province. Forests, mountains, rivers, waterfalls, you’ve got everything you would wish for, if you’re not a beach guy, that is…
Go to the bridge and the war cemetery and museum, and explore the province afterwards, you won’t regret it.
And now the photos, starting with the bridge during the day. Photos taken from one of the platforms you have every 20 meters. With the Canon 450D and the wide-angle EF-S 10-22mm.

And why do you have platforms? Because, sometimes, there are trains coming through…
And if no platform, you’ll probably have to jump into the water if you wanted to avoid the train, getting pretty close actually. So you just stand there waiting
And here it comes

The platforms are handy indeed
And for the people wanting a bit of a kick, crossing the bridge during the night. Quite an adventure indeed, no lights.
But we actually did it and survived (no train during the night).
And for the food lovers, plenty of restaurants there and plenty of reasonably priced Thai food, even on the floating restaurants.
And if you want to live there, without aircon, but with the cooling effect of the water, why not a house on the Kwai river?
