The Thailand flag has five horizontal stripes, two red at the edge of the flag, one blue at its center, double width compared to the others, and 2 white ones in between. It is known as Trairanga and is actually quite recent in its present form, 1917.

Before that, it was mainly red, red with a white elephant or red with white stripes but no blue until 1917.

And Thai people being very proud of their country and the flag being the symbol of the country, you can see it on the streets, on windows, painted on cars, buses…

So it would seem quite easy to take a good picture of the Thai flag, I mean an interesting one, the flag being everywhere.

But well, it is not, I’ve been trying to get a good photo of the Thai flag for ages but am not satisfied with the results yet, and probably never will be. But it does not mean I can’t post some of the pictures I’ve taken in the last few months. So here are the ones I prefer so far…

This one was taken in Samut Songkran, in a well known Wat, the flag obscuring the very bright midday sun

And this one was taken in Ayuttaya, next to an old chedi.

And the third one was taken next to the Headquarters of the Kasikorn Bank, from the Rama IX bridge over the Chao Phraya river in Bangkok. With two green Kasikorn bank flags floating next to the Thailand flag.

And here is a moving Thailand flag, with the “red shirts” in the streets of Chiang Mai (but you could take similar pictures in the streets of Bangkok at the time I post this).
