Bangkok is a huge city, with lot of big streets, lot of small streets, lot of cars, lot of buildings,… but not with lot of parks, especially in downtown Bangkok. So where do you go in order to see some trees and escape, for a short while, the craziness of Bangkok traffic and the noise in the business district? You go to Lumphini Park.
It is located on Rama IV road, between Ratchadamri Road and Witthayu (Wireless) Road. Not far from Silom road and its many banks, shops, companies, and evening entertainment. The easiest way to go there is to take the MRT up to the Lumphini station. Or the BTS skytrain up to the Sala Daeng station.
As you can see on the map, it is next to the well known Thai-Belgium bridge on Rama 4.
Going there with your car is not such a good idea, not only because of the traffic, but because you will still need to find a parking space. If you do not want or can not take the MRT or the BTS, take a taxi.
In Lumphini park, the Bangkok grey is replaced by green grass and trees, a welcome change in such a crowded city
There is also a small artificial lake, where you can rent some paddle boats, and have some “quiet” exercise
The photo above was taken quite some time ago, a more recent one shows a change in the kind of paddle boat you can rent. And a swimmer.
So, as shown on the previous picture, if you sit and relax next to the lake, I hope you do not mind meeting some big cousin of the gecko, a very big cousin, the monitor lizard.
Looking for the shower room after the swim in the lake, I guess

At the South entrance of the park, you will see the statue of King Rama VI, the park having been created during his reign, in 1920, on royal property.
Which brings me to the subject of this posting, if you want to exercise in Lumphini Park, you have a jogging track, the park being 2.5 km in length, that can also be used if you’re more into cycling than into jogging. But cycling is only allowed between 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. while jogging is allowed 24 hours a day.
And if you prefer exercising with others, and aerobics is what you like, you can join one of the many aerobics events, happening on a regular basis
And do not forget to stretch, before and after exercising
